This khipu is part of a group of four others that are attached to each other. Research notes for UR53A have a diagram of the khipu attachments, with arrows indicating the direction of data recording. As the khipu were mounted, going around the outside of the A-B-D loop, all attachments appear to be in Verso. On E and C, Verso side is mounted up, but not possible to tell which way these may have originally hung.
6.0 - 8.0 cm: AB cord wrapped around primary cords of A, E & D. 33.0 - 34.0: AB cord wrapped around primary cords of A, B, C, & D.

Notes from Urton:(Catálogo de khipus): Five khipus tied together. All khipus have a basic three-color cord grouping: W (white) – RL (light reddish brown) – AB (light brown). Khipus UR53B and UR53C are “matching khipus” (i.e., a substantial number of the pendant cords of the two khipus carry the same numerical values knotted into the cords, in the same order).

Primary Cord Notes:Cord is 3-ply final S. Each ply is RL-AB-GG. Final effect RL:AB:GG.
